When do you take consultations?

Design/Tasting Consultations are held for weddings and larger custom cake orders. Due to the busy lives of our clients and the time constraints and deadlines we face, most consultations are made during business hours Tuesday through Thursday from 9am - 5pm. On Friday and Saturday we are busy finishing and delivering the cakes for the weekend events. We try to accommodate everyone's schedule, so please contact us and we will make every effort to work within your schedule.

What do I need to bring to our Design/Tasting Consultation?

It is helpful to bring elements from your event that you feel we can draw inspiration from such as pictures of your dress, the venue, invitations or floral choices. Design motifs such as a monogram, color swatches, china patterns or anything that catches your eye. We have hundreds of cake images for you to browse through and we have endless ideas. The design process is definitely a collaborative effort. Your cake should be an expression of your individuality and vision. With your imagination and our skills, the possibilities are endless!

Is there a charge for the Design/Tasting Consultation? How long can we expect to be there?

There is no fee for your initial Design/Tasting Consultation. An hour is set aside for each client, which has proven to be ample time to both design and taste our cakes. Often appointments are scheduled before and after yours so please plan to be on time so we have a full hour. Please keep in mind that cake samples are prepared specifically for your appointment. We ask for the courtesy of 48 hours notice if your appointment needs to be rescheduled.

How many people can I bring with me to the Design/Tasting Consultation?

Although the whole family is eager to attend your Design/Tasting Consultation, our studio can accommodate a total of four guests. Arrangements must be made in advance for more than four so we are sure to have enough cake for you and your guests.

How far in advance should I order a cake?

We are often booked many weeks ahead of time so the sooner the better to reserve your place on our calendar. To ensure availability we recommend booking three months to one year in advance of your event. We definitely attempt to accommodate last minute requests if our schedule allows. Please call or email to find out our availability for your particular date.

What is rolled fondant?

Fondant icing is porcelain smooth, malleable sugar dough made from sugar, water and corn syrup. It has a pure white matte finish and can be tinted to complement just about any color theme. It is laid over buttercream-iced cake as a decorative finish. It has a neutral, sweet taste much like marshmallows. Since we use only the highest quality fondant, it does not effect the overall flavor of the cake.

Can my wedding cake have more than one flavor?

Yes, you may choose from our selection of delicious flavors. However, we recommend that you order only 1-2 different flavors. Your guests will want to sample all the flavors and there is a chance that you may run out of cake.

How many tiers will my cake be?

This is a general guide for the number of tiers you will need for a cake, based on how many guests you would like to serve. This can be modified somewhat to produce a taller or stouter cake.

  • 25 servings = one tier
  • 26 to 75 servings = two tiers
  • 75 to 150 servings = three tiers
  • 150 to 225 servings = four tiers
  • 225 up to 350 servings = five tiers

What can I expect to pay for a wedding cake? Do you have a price list?

We do not have a general price list for wedding cakes because each cake is one of a kind. Most wedding cakes are priced per person; small orders typically, anything under 75 servings are priced per project. Ultimately the price is based on the complexity of design, the time invested in its creation, the number of guests being served and the ingredients used. Before you arrive for your consultation, it is helpful to have a budget in mind for what you would like to spend on your cake. This will give us a better sense of what we can design for you.

Do you provide flowers or other decorations?

Sweet Memories can provide a cascade of sugar flowers, fondant bows, swags, stenciling, hand-painting, applique and more. At this time, fresh flowers must be provided by your florist. If the flowers are at the reception site cake table when we arrive, Sweet Memories will place them on the cake. If an excessive amount of floral set up is required, an additional fee will be charged for floral placement.

What time should the wedding cake be delivered?

We recommend that your cake be delivered 1-3 hours prior to the start of your reception, but this may vary depending on the weather, whether your cake is inside or outside, in the sun, etc. We confirm with your reception site for delivery and room availability.

What is your delivery area? What do charge for delivery?

We are willing to travel anywhere that our cakes can safely be delivered. Please contact us to inquire about a specific location. Delivery fees are additional and are determined by distance, round trip, time and the setup requirements for the cake.
